About Us

Our Mission

Giving people an opportunity to see Jesus and discover a life of purpose through His Word.

Our Purpose

Acts 2:42-47
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

The Bible

God wants to know us personally. More than just practicing religion, He wants a relationship with us. Our weekend services are where we focus on that relationship. Whether you’re new to faith, have questions, or have been a Christ follower for a long time, our services are a safe place to learn more about what it means to know God and grow closer to Him.

Prayer

CityBeat values the Presence of God and desires to establish a community in which the fullness of His Presence consistently manifests in the lives, homes, schools, businesses, and cities of those who serve in this house. The Prayer Room is a place to gather morning, noon, and night to minister to the heart of God, to receive God’s love, to hear God’s voice and then decree, prophesy, and pray those realities into the earth.

Fellowship

Real life change happens in the context of relationships – Life Groups. In the Bible, they worshipped in the temple but ministry happened house to house.

Serving

All of us were created by God to make a difference in the life of another person. God has a place for you where your unique abilities and passions can touch the lives of others. We believe that your life will never make sense until you find, develop, and fulfill that purpose.(“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10)

Our Pastors

Pastor Jared & Ashley Michael

Born in Michigan, Pastor Jared Michael moved to Baltimore when his father, Ed Michael, was offered the job of pastoring Westside Assembly of God. From a young age, he felt a call to give his life to serving the people of Baltimore. The idea for CityBeat Baltimore was birthed when Pastor Jared heard a sermon by Pastor Matthew Barnett of the Los Angeles Dream Center. After founding CityBeat Dream Center in 2015, Pastor Jared felt a pull to start a church in Baltimore City. Pastor Jared’s heart is to bring the hope of the Gospel to everyone he encounters. From the addict to the prostitute to the business leader, all are welcome and invited to encounter the love of Jesus. Pastor Jared leads CityBeat Church & Dream Center alongside his wife, Ashley. Ashley graduated from Faith Bible College International with a Bachelor’s in Theology & Bible Studies with a minor in Music. Pastor Jared and Ashley have a passion for the City of Baltimore and believe that Jesus can save anyone.

The BEST IS YET TO COME!

Our Story

It all began in  1991

In 1991, Pastor Levi Rice, Pastor Don Cox, and Pastor Phil Foster got together with a heart to plant a church in the Carrollton Ridge community of Baltimore. The group began praying and meeting in the upstairs of a bar in Carrollton Ridge. The group had a desire to buy the bar in 1991, but the bar owner refused. The group continued doing meetings in the upstairs of the bar for two years. In 1993, the bar owner came back and asked if the church was interested in buying the building.

Established as “Westside Assembly of God” because of the nearby Westside Shopping Center, the church began fully operating out of the building. Pastor Levi Rice brought one of his disciples, Joe Madeiros, to be lead pastor in 1993, and he served in that capacity for 3 years. After this, the Lord continued to do an amazing work under Pastor Ed Michael for the next 6 years. Pastor Marshall Haley stepped in after that and served the community faithfully. Pastor Steve Kahn became lead pastor in 2008. Under Pastor Steve, the “Bread of Life” Soup Kitchen opened and began serving hundreds of meals to the neighborhood on a weekly basis. Pastor Steve also changed the name of the church to “Westside Community Church.” In September 2018, Pastor Jared Michael became officially installed as the new pastor. Following God’s leading, Pastor Jared officially relaunched the church in January 2019 as CityBeat Church.
